Apple iWatch will ship in Q3

The most anticipated Apple iWatch is headed for a Q3 2014 release, with several Asian manufacturers entering the supply chain.

Apple iWatch will ship in Q3

The smartwatch manufacturing was initially rumored to have exclusive production rights of the wearable to LG, replaced by longtime Apple rival Samsung. The crosstown Korean manufacturer will be handling processor and outsource actual production.

China’s Economic Daily News reports that Taiwanese-based companies Quanta Computer, TPK, and Richtek will be performing various parts of the manufacture and assembly. Also according to EDN, Apple is expecting suppliers to deliver products starting this August.

Until now, LG was strongly linked to the production of the iWatch, particularly because of its proficiency at designing curved OLED displays – a feature strongly hinted at as being part of the device. Despite their legal troubles, however, Apple has seemingly again turned to Samsung for part of their device production. Fortunately, Samsung also specializes in curved OLED displays, so it’s feature that we’ll hopefully see in the device upon release.
