8 inch Samsung Galaxy tablet spotted

Image
8 inch Samsung Galaxy tablet spotted : The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 leaks keep on coming. The head of Samsung’s mobile division recently confirmed that the company was working on an 8 inch Galaxy Note tablet, and earlier this week we saw what may be a brochure for the new tablet. Now italian site DDay.it has obtained a few images of what looks like an 8 inch Galaxy tablet in the wild . Actually, what it looks like is a large  Samsung Galaxy S III or Galaxy note smartphone. The photos even show the same buttons Samsung uses on its phones hanging out below the screen. The makes a bit of sense, since 7 and 8 inch tablets are pretty much designed to be held in portrait mode, like phones, while larger tablets work best in landscape orientation. So while Samsung’s 10 inch tablets are button-free, an 8 inch model might look like a big phone. The tablet is expected to have a 1280 x 800 pixel display, a quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. If we’re really looking at a Galaxy Note produc

Next Google Nexus 10 Variant to have 8-core GPU & quad-core CPU

Image
According to reliable sources the next refreshed Nexus 10 will sport the 8-core Mali-T678 GPU along with a quad-core CPU.  Major component upgrades such as a beefier GPU merits a design overhaul, so maybe we’ll see a brand spanking new Nexus 10 by May or June.  Although, it is also reported that Google may tuck away the beefier chips under the same current Nexus 10 shell. Mobile World Congress is right around the corner, but most can guess that it’s just too soon for Google to announce a new tablet in Barcelona.  Google’s I/O event, however, sounds like a reasonable date for the lid to be lifted. The current Nexus 10 features a dual-core A15 along with the quad-core Mali T604.  Currently, the 16GB model costs $399, and the 32GB model is tagged for $499. Samsung Galaxy note 8.0 Images Alleged

Image
Samsung Galaxy note 8.0 Images Alleged : Samsung has already confirmed plans to unveil an 8 inch Galaxy Note at Mobile World Congress in February. Now we may have an idea what that tablet will look like. Twitter user @Claisifatearg has posted a photo allegedly showing a flyer for the upcoming tablet, complete with pictures of the front and back of the device. If the picture is real, it looks like the Galaxy Note 8.0 may share more DNA with its 5.5 inch smartphone sibling than with the larger Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. It kind of looks like what you’d get if you just blew up the Galaxy Note 2 (which I suppose could also be an indication that the pictures are ‘shopped – as is the fact that ClasificateArg’s Twitter account looks pretty anemic). The 8 inch tablet is expected to have a 1280 x 800 pixel display, 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. Like other members of the Note family, it will have an S-Pen which you can use to write or draw on the screen with pressure-sensi

Thousands of Android apps Ported to BlackBerry in advance of BB10 launch

Image
Thousands of Android apps Ported to BlackBerry in advance of BB10 launch : Research in Motion plans to launch the first BlackBerry 10 smartphones in the coming weeks, and when they hit the streets there will be tens of thousands of apps ready to download from the BlackBerry World store. Over the past few weeks those numbers have gone way up as RIM has held “Port-A-Thons” to encourage Android app developers to port their apps to BB10. In fact, last weekend alone, the company says more than 19,000 apps were submitted to BlackBerry World. One of the challenges facing any new operating system at launch is the limited number of apps available for a new platform. There are hundreds of thousands of apps available for Android and iOS, with Windows Phone and BlackBerry trailing pretty far behind. But RIM is hoping to get a bit of a head start by making it easy to port Android apps to its platform. Like the BlackBerry PlayBook OS for tablets, BB10 has a Java virtual machine that can

Microsoft Surface Pro will Launch on Feb 9th for $899

Image
Microsoft’s next Tablet line up  Surface Pro will go on sale in the US and Canada starting from February 9th with a price tag of $899 for a model with 64GB of storage, while a 128GB model for $999. Both tablets feature 10.6 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel displays, 4GB of RAM, Intel Core i5 processors, and Windows 8 Pro software. In other words, while the tablets cost almost twice as much as the Microsoft Surface RT, they also pack significantly more powerful hardware and feature a full version of Windows which can run virtually any Windows app, unlike Windows RT which only runs apps downloaded from the Windows Store (unless you jailbreak it). Another thing that sets the Surface Pro apart from the Surface RT is the pressure-sensitive digital pen for writing or drawing on the screen or hovering a mouse cursor while running desktop Windows apps. Microsoft will charge $120 extra if you want a Touch Cover or $130 for a Type cover. Those are the screen covers Microsoft offers for its

Samsung Launches Galaxy SII Plus With Jelly Bean

Image
Samsung Launches Galaxy SII Plus With Jelly Bean : The Samsung Galaxy S II was one of the most impressive Android phones on the market when it launched. But that was way back in early 2011. Nearly two years later the phone’s processor, screen, and other features look a little out dated- and yet Samsung has new plans for another Successor Samsung Galaxy SII Plus With Jelly Bean Pre-loaded. Google launches Chrome Beta For Android

Image
Google launches Chrome Beta For Android : Google is now offering a Beta versionof its Chrome web browser for Google Android 4.0 and later. Just like the desktop version, Chrome Beta for Android offers a chance to check out new features and improvements before they’re widely available in the stable channel. On the other hand, it also means that you get to experience bugs that will probably be squashed by the time they make it to the Stable channel. The first beta version of Chrome for Android is Chrome 25, and among other things, it offers improved HTML5 and JavaScript performance. But there’s a long list of known problems including generally sluggish performance, particularly on the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S smartphones. Text auto-sizing can break formatting on some website, and you can’t edit bookmarks. you can see a complete list known issues in the Chrome releases blog post . Google will push regular updates, and you can configure the beta channel to automatically install

Samsung introduces Exynos 5 Octa CPU with 8-cores

Image
Samsung introduces Exynos 5 Octa CPU with 8-cores : Samsung has announced Exynos 5 Octa, a 8-core processor, but it’s really probably better to think of it as a quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 processor with some extra power saving features. That’s because the Octa uses ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture to pair four high-power CPU cores with four lower-power cores. When you need performance, the beefier chips will do the heavy lifting. When you can get by with the lower power cores, they’ll handle the grunt work to help reduce power consumption and give your phone, tablet, Chromebook, or other device longer battery life. Samsung started talking about this design back in November, but during a press event at CES today, the company gave the upcoming chip the Octa name. Calling it an 8-core chip is a bit like calling NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 and 4 a 5-core chip, since they’re both quad-core processors with low-power companion cores. For that matter, Tegra 4 has 72 graphics cores… so it’s kind of

Samsung shows off flexible displays with a working phone prototype

Image
Samsung shows off flexible displays with a working phone prototype :Samsung has been showing off flexible display prototypes for years, but so far we haven’t seen a phone, tablet, or other mobile device hit the streets with a screen that you can roll up and put in your pocket. But now the company is showing off a bit more than a flexible display — the company showed off a demo of a smartphone with a flexible display that folds around the sides of the handset so you can see content on the sides as well as the front. The new display technology is called Youm, and Samsung says it offers improved contrast and color. What’s significant is that Samsung is starting to show off the screen in working products. It could still be a while before you have a phone that you can roll up when you’re not using it, but at the very least the new technology could help produce phones and tablets with screens that are much more difficult to break. Acer Iconia B1 Appears For a Quick Review

Image
Remember the budget 7 Inch tablet Acer Iconia B1 we talked about earlier ?, which comes with a 1.2 Ghz processor and Android 4.1 software. This Budget tablet is priced arround $99 and waiting for the CES 2013 debut. The folks at Bulgarian site Tablet.bg have gotten their hands on an Acer Iconia B1 , which they say will sell for about $235 in that country soon. They’ve posted a series of photos, test results, and plenty of details about Acer’s upcoming budget tablet. Powered by a 1.2 GHz MediaTek 8317 dual core processor, the Iconia B1 isn’t exactly a speed demon. But it does earn winning marks in size: it’s apparently the same weigh as an Apple iPad mini and lighter than an Asus Nexus 7 or Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablet. The tablet has a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage, PowerVR SGX531 graphics, a front-facing 2MP camera, and 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 as well as GPS. It’s not clear whether Acer has any plans at all to sell the Icon

Ubuntu Unveils Touch Edition OS For Smartphones

Image
Canonical company has announced it’s developing a version of its popular Linux-based operating system designed to run on smartphones, with the first Ubuntu Phone OS handsets scheduled to hit the streets in 2014. Company has plans to partner with Android smartphone makers to ship the first devices featuring “Ubuntu on Android,” a solution that lets you dock your Android phone to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to use your phone as a full-fledged desktop computer. When you’re away from your desk, you can use your phone as a normal Android handset. It’s starting to sound like a bit of a stop-gap measure until Ubuntu Phone OS is ready to go next year. The company also plans to make software available for download before then, which The Verge says you’ll be able to install on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, one of the most developer-friendly phones on the market right now. Those phones won’t be able to run Android apps at all, and instead will run software developed for Ubuntu Phone OS. On

Corning promises Gorilla Glass 3 For CES 2013

Image
For every Smart phone and tablet makers the Corning Gorilla Glass is a  familiar term, the sturdy glass material which has proven tougher to shatter or scratch than traditional glass. Now Corning is getting ready to launch the third generation of Gorilla Glass, which is even tougher to break. Gorilla Glass 3 will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, and if previous Corning displays are anything to go by, I suspect the company will be putting glass panels through some heavy duty stress tests for the amusement of journalists. The company says Gorilla Glass 3 is 3 times more scratch resistant than its predecessors, and if you do manage to scratch the surface of your phone or tablet, the scratches will be 40 percent less visible thanks to the way the glass is formulated.

How to Enable Smart Stay and Smart Rotate on Android

Image
Smart Stay and Smart Rotate are premium features for high end Samsung android smartphones. but now, using the GMD Smart Rotate app you can replicate both of those features on a non-TouchWiz device or any  lower device. The free version of the app implements Smart Rotate – it uses the front-facing camera instead of the accelerometer to rotate the screen. The advantage is that there are situations where the accelerometer gets it wrong – e.g. when you’re lying on your side or if the phone/tablet is on a flat surface. For this to work, your device needs a front-facing camera and the camera needs to see your face (i.e. there has to be enough light in the room). The GMD Smart Rotate can also force apps to rotate even if they don’t support it. If you shell out $2 for the full version, GMD Smart Rotate will do Smart Stay too – this feature keeps the screen on when you are looking at the phone, ignoring the sleep timer. This is great for reading (e.g. a web page or an e-book) as it takes y
