Oneplus One smartphone Design to Specs: Everything you need to know

Oneplus One is the new smartphone from Oppo founder and CM who managed to make the ultimate Android smartphone, packing into a aluminium unibody design and the Best in class Android specs to competite against current market.

According to the latest sketches the OnePlus One will be using a unibody aluminum shell.  It is designing a top-notch smartphone with a 5.5" 1080p display with some of the thinnest bezels we've seen so far - a previous leak suggested the OnePlus One can disappear completely behind the 5" Xperia Z1. The One will run on the snappy Snapdragon 800 chipset and will cost less than $400.

The sketches also reveal that the handset will have a power key located on one of the sides, just like Sony Xperia handsets, while the headset jack and stereo speakers seem to be placed on the top and bottom of the device, respectively.

The main camera will have a dual flash, according to the drawing, but a front-facing camera is not specifically highlighted on the front side of the device. Interestingly, there’s a “TP lens” annotation linked to the display. It’s not clear what that means, and while “TP lens” is sometimes used to describe telephoto lenses, that seems to be an unlikely built-in feature for a smartphone. The “TP lens” note may rather be related to the Touch on Lens technology confirmed for the phone’s screen.

Also missing from the sketches are placements for volume rockers, microUSB charging port and SIM card slot. It’s still not known whether the device will offer expandable storage on top of the 16GB/64GB of memory it will ship with, but a microSD slot is not drawn or mentioned.

Oneplus One to feature Always on Voice Commands

OnePlus is apparently letting forum users choose the voice-based hotword that will wake up the phone – the available choices include “OK, OnePlus!,” “Wake up, OnePlus!,” and “Alakazam.” As for the software side, the CyanogenMod team will include voice-based features that take advantage of the Snapdragon 800’s voice functionality.

“Tired of unlocking your phone before interacting with it? Pins and fingerprints are a thing of the past! Ever wondered how would it be if you could command your phone to set up an alarm or do a search on Google without having to use your fingertips? The future is now!” the company wrote. “We’ve developed a new voice recognition/command feature based on Qualcomm’s technology which the Cyanogen team has implemented into our customized version of CyanogenMod OS. Now, you can train your OnePlus One to recognize your voice and perform different tasks even when the phone is locked!”

Oneplus One Display and other features

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau posted the first official picture of the OnePlus One on the company’s forums… although unfortunately the device is completely covered by the Sony’s Xperia Z1 smartphone. This clever marketing trick was used in connection with an actual OnePlus One revelation: The screen size of the phone.

Oneplus One Display and specs

The OnePlus One will have a 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) at 400+ pixels-per-inch (PPI), Lau revealed. But even so, the phone will actually be smaller than the Xperia Z1, a 5-inch handset announced last year, at least when it comes to width. In a recent ask-me-almost-anything session, OnePlus employees revealed that the One will have a screen-to-body ratio bigger than the Nexus 5, which delivers an impressive 72%. Meanwhile, the Xperia Z1 has a ratio of 64.5%.

The image hints that the One will have very small bezels and a rather small footprint for a phablet-sized display. For what it’s worth, the Xperia Z1 measures 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm. Sony increased the screen size in its newest flagship phone as well, to 5.2-inch,es but the Xperia Z2 is slightly taller than its predecessor, measuring 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm.

The OnePlus One will also feature a LED notification light, with the company teasing a surprise battery technology for the handset. “You won’t have to worry about the battery! Plus, we will be revealing a ‘mystery technology’ for it soon,” David wrote. The phone will also pack stereo speakers and have a “better screen/body ratio than the Nexus 5.”

“The battery was another big decision for us,” says CEO Pete Lau in a post on the OnePlus forums. “Our foremost concern was implementing a battery that would last long enough for a full day of normal, daily tasks without users having to worry about lowering the brightness, closing all their apps, or disabling Bluetooth or data services.”

To accommodate these needs, the OnePlus One will feature a 3,100 mAh, non-removable battery. In order to make the battery removable, OnePlus would have been forced to either cut back on battery life or increase the size of the actual hardware, neither of which the team was willing to do.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said the smartphone will sell for less than $500, although what he apparently meant is under $400. “Priced under $500 doesn’t mean $499. The OnePlus One will definitely be available for under $400,” Lau said on Google Plus.

The OnePlus One should go official on March 16, so we'll know everything very soon.
