Eric Schmidt: "Patents prevent innovation and I think that is very bad"

In the official launch of Google's Nexus 7 in Korea, Google’s Chairman Eric Schmidt was there for the event, when he also shared the view on Google’s position towards the whole patent industry and the rivalries.
'Literally patent wars prevent choice, prevent innovation and I think that is very bad,' Schmidt said. 'We are obviously working through that and trying to make sure we stay on the right side of these issues. So ultimately Google stands for innovation as opposed to patent wars.'
'I think one of the worst things that happened in the last few years has been the belief that somehow there are so many patents in the mobile phone world, an estimated 200,000 patent that are overlapping and complicated and so forth, that one vendor can stop the sale of another vendor’s phones or devices,' he also stressed.

We know the speech was more against Apple, however he quickly soothed with a mention that Apple remains “a very good partner” for Google. Schmidt did admit, though, that the “two companies are literally talking all the time about everything.”

As the chairman will be also meeting Samsung executives after the function. he mentioned Samsung is " One of our most important customers and there is much to discuss" .The Korean company is the biggest vendor of Android OS and who has been most suffered when comes to patent case which recently take place.
